Not to be confused with its larger northerly sister, the Dominican Republic, Dominica sits midway between Guadeloupe and Martinique. At just 289 square miles, the majority of the island’s population resides in and around the port area of Roseau.
It is the youngest island in the Lesser Antilles, still being formed by geothermal-volcanic activity, as evidenced by the world's second-largest hot spring, Boiling Lake. Dominica is the only country in the world with a count of 365 rivers.
