Following the merger announcement between Scoot and Tiger air, as of today, all previous Tigerair flights will be operated under the Scoot brand and Scoot flights will operate under the TR flight designator code. Moreover, Scoot announces 5 new international destinations.
Scoot CEO Mr Lee Lik Hsin said, “As we come to the end of Tigerair’s journey, we open up a brand new chapter for Scoot. Building on what Tigerair and the old Scoot had achieved since their respective inceptions, we are stronger than we have ever been before, and consequently in an even better position to offer our guests more choice, connectivity and value. The enhanced Scoot that we are introducing today is spunky and sassy, and promises to create more travel opportunities for our guests.”
New Destinations
In conjunction with this single brand celebration, Mr Lee also disclosed the five new destinations that Scoot will fly to by June 2018. Among them are Honolulu, Scoot’s maiden USA destination, and Harbin in Northeast China. The remaining three are short-haul destinations - Kuching and Kuantan in Malaysia, and Palembang in Indonesia.
Coupled with the addition of the previous Tigerair network, the five new services will bring Scoot’s total destination count to 65 across 18 countries.
New Uniform
Beyond new destinations, Scoot’s crew members, affectionately named Scootees, will be outfitted with new uniform designs bearing a refreshing, yet distinctively Scoot look. The new uniform for female crew members cuts a flattering silhouette with its asymmetric dress design and higher waistline, while that for male crew members features sharper angles for the yellow highlights on the polo shirts.

Both male and female crew uniforms also feature fun details, such as black buttons sewn on with yellow thread to provide a subtle feature for the male crew uniforms, and thicker fabric for the Scootees to stay warm during cabin service. The new uniforms represent a fresh start for crew of both airlines, while Scoot’s signature black and yellow color combination has been retained, carrying on the spirit of fun and spontaneity of the Scoot brand.
Escape the Ordinary
In conjunction with the brand enhancement, Scoot has also changed its Get Outta Here! tagline and adopted a new slogan, Escape the Ordinary.
“Scoot’s new tagline, Escape the Ordinary, is reflective of our growth as an airline brand,” said Mr Lee. “It is more relevant to the global market now that our network has grown as it is aspirational to our inner wanderlust, and inspires us to travel and explore the world.”
Scoot also rolled out its first A320 aircraft, previously operated by Tigerair and repainted with the Scoot livery, named “Conscious Coupling” in commemoration of the integration between Scoot and Tigerair. The current Tigerair fleet will be progressively repainted and the complete livery change is targeted to be by mid-2018.

HONOLULU - Hawaiian Airlines will expand its U.S. West Coast presence with the arrival of an A321neo fleet by adding three new non-stop daily routes early next year: Portland-Maui; Oakland-Kaua'i; and Los Angeles-Kona. The routes will offer guests more options for direct access to Hawaiian's neighbor islands while enjoying the company's award-winning, warm hospitality in the comfort of medium-haul, single-aisle A321neo aircraft.
"The introduction of A321neo service to the Western U.S. heralds the dawn of a new era for Hawaiian Airlines and its guests," said Peter Ingram, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Hawaiian Airlines. "The A321neo offers an unrivaled combination of comfort and efficiency, allowing our guests to choose from three cabin experiences to customize their journey. We look forward to announcing additional routes in the months and years ahead."
The new A321neo service between Portland (PDX) and Maui (OGG) will launch on Jan. 18. Hawaiian's seasonal widebody service currently offered between Oakland (OAK) and Kaua'i (LIH) through Sept. 4 will resume April 11 as a daily A321neo flight. Daily service between Los Angeles (LAX) and Kona (KOA) on the Island of Hawai'i launches March 11 with widebody aircraft before the A321neo is introduced in the summer of 2018. Guests may visit www.hawaiianairlines.com to purchase tickets for all routes operated by Hawaiian Airlines.
Hawaiian's inaugural A321neo flight between the U.S. West Coast and Hawai'i is planned for Jan. 8 on its existing OAK-OGG service. Additional routes will be announced as Hawaiian welcomes 18 new A321neo aircraft between the fourth quarter of 2017 and 2020.
Hawaiian's signature style flows throughout the A321neo's three cabins, including 16 luxurious leather recliners in the Premium Cabin, 45 Extra Comfort premium economy seats, and 128 Economy class seats. All seats are equipped with complimentary high-power USB outlets for device charging, while guests in the Premium Cabin and Extra Comfort seats will enjoy access to an additional AC power outlet. Pivoting overhead bins maximize the space for carry-on luggage.
Hawaiian carefully designed its A321neo cabin interiors with textiles and materials that reflect traditional island crafts, from bark cloth (kapa) to fishing nets, and even LED lighting mirroring Hawai'i's idyllic sunrises and sunsets.
New to Hawaiian's guest experience, the A321neo will feature wireless streaming in-flight entertainment. Guests will be able to simply download an application on their personal electronic devices to enjoy a wide selection of complimentary and premium content, including movies, TV shows, music and other exclusive programming. Holders for personal hand-held devices and tablets will be integrated into the tray tables of the Premium Cabin as well as the first row of Extra Comfort, and built into the backrest of all other seats.
The A321neo boasts the quietest and most fuel-efficient engines for this aircraft type, along with aerodynamic wingtips called Sharklets that significantly reduce carbon emissions.

Ryanair airlines to induct new aircraft for better services

Αποτέλεσμα εικόνας για Ryanair airlines to induct new aircraft for better services

APART FROM Aviation anoraks, passengers don’t give much attention to the of aircraft they are travelling on. The basic priority is to lands safely – and on schedule. But perhaps it’s time to pay closer attention because a raft of new aircraft would taking to the skies that are supposed to make an impact on the way we travel.
Cue Ryanair, which will be taking delivery of a new fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft between 2019 and 2023. Describing the planes with that well-worn adjective “game changer”, the airline claims the new jets will impact passengers – mainly their wallets.
How will the planes affect fares?

The Irish carrier claims prices will go down when the new fleet takes to the skies.
“These new aircraft will reduce fuel consumption by up to 16 per cent, while offering four per cent more seats per flight, which will further reduce Ryanair’s industry leading low costs,” a spokesperson for the airline told Telegraph Travel. “The savings will be passed on via lower fares to our customers.”

We’ll hold them to that.

Will this impact comfort?
If the good news is lower fares, the bad news surely is the additional four per cent capacity per plane; it’s not as though there’s a surfeit of space on Ryanair’s current 737-800s, which are the same size as the new jets.

Well, Ryanair claims that while it has reconfigured the new aircraft to accommodate an eight passengers per plane, this is not tantamount to cramming. Quite the opposite, in fact.

“These new aircraft will have the same fuselage as our current aircraft, but will have reconfigured toilets and galleys, and slimline seats, allowing more room to add an additional eight seats,” said a spokesperson for the airline. “The aircraft will offer more legroom than BA and Lufthansa economy – there will be no cramming.”

Does that mean more room for cabin baggage?
The airline claims the new planes will allow for additional hand luggage, but don’t expect that to signal an end of carry-on bags being transferred to the hold; currently only 90 standard-sized cases (55cm x 40cm x 20cm) are guaranteed to travel in the cabin on Ryanair’s planes and this is unlikely to increase significantly with the new jets.

Will there be new routes?
If Ryanair’s new jets consume 15 per cent less fuel that presumably means they a 15 per cent larger range? According to Ryanair’s website, its current fleet has a maximum range of 5,950km – around the distance from London to Central Asia. The 737 MAX 8, designed to replace the 737-800, will have a range of up to 6,690km. That puts the East Coast of America within reach.

The carrier says, however, that it won’t be putting any long-haul pins in its route map.
“We’re solely focussed on growing within Europe at the moment,” a spokesperson told us.

What are its rivals up to?
Ryanair’s upstart rivals intend to use their latest aircraft to open up new routes. As Telegraph Travel reported yesterday, a little-known low-cost carrier from Iceland, Primera Air, will start flying from the UK to the US next year for as little as £149 one way.

Using Airbus’s new A321neo and A321LR jets, the airline will serve New York (Newark) and Boston from both Birmingham and London Stansted, pitching it against Norwegian, which already offers transatlantic flights for the same cost.

Pilots call for urgent action following drone testing results

Αποτέλεσμα εικόνας για Pilots call for urgent action following drone testing results

The European Cockpit Association (ECA) calls for urgent action following the publication of the  results of drone collisions tests with aircraft and helicopter carried out by independent researchers funded jointly by ECA member the British Airline Pilots’ Association, the UK Department for Transport and the UK Military Aviation Authority.
The results of the independent tests are a robust proof that drone impacts on aircraft windscreens and helicopter rotors can be catastrophic, even at relatively modest speeds with small drones.
Testing show that drones can cause more damage than a bird of equivalent mass at the same speed. Therefore it is particularly important that recreational drone users strictly follow the local rules and regulations on flying drones. No-fly zones such as the vicinity of airfields, heliports or accident sites where emergency medical helicopter services might operate and the altitude limitations for flying drones must be respected.
Johan Glantz, ECA Executive Board Director, said, “The results of the independent tests prove that there is a possibility of a catastrophic consequence from a drone colliding with an aircraft. That means this identified risk needs to be adequately mitigated with appropriate measures, such as the qualification and training for recreational drone users, additional technology installed in drones, and effective awareness campaign among the mass-market drone users.”
ECA believes the national and European authorities must now review the findings of the report as a matter of urgency and act to control this proven threat.
ECA is calling for:
  • Awareness campaigns promoting a responsible use of drones;
  • Robust qualification standards and training for recreational drone pilots, and licensing for professional UAS pilots;
  • Compulsory registration of drones and drone users, to improve traceability, and promote adherence to existing regulations;
  • Mandatory geo-fencing around airports to reduce conflict with aircraft;
  • Investment in technology to allow air traffic controllers to “see” drones, to possibly predict when a conflict with a manned aircraft is possible;
  • Effective enforcement of rules concerning the use of drones by properly trained and funded officials;

Neelu Samant, Director – Quantum Travels commented about Israel as a MICE destination and said, “India’s rapidly evolving MICE consumer is always looking for fresh destinations and Israel holds great promise with fantastic infrastructure, conference facilities in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and even in Eilat (Red Sea resort town) and Beresheet – which is in the middle of a desert. Carnival Cruise Line to Decide Fate of Gulf Port

Photo by Andy Newman/Carnival Cruise Lines

Next week, a decision will be made that could have a major impact on cruisers who sail out of Mobile, Alabama. That town’s mayor, Sandy Stimpson, is scheduled to meet in Miami with executives at Carnival Cruise Line on Monday, July 31, and the No. 1 item on their agenda is negotiating a contract which will guarantee the line continues to sail out of the southern port.

Will Carnival Cruise Line and Mobile Reach A Deal?

It was something of a shock when Carnival pulled out of Mobile back in 2011, citing rising fuel costs and an inability to make the same profit they might if their ships sailed from another port. But last winter, the line reached a new deal with the city, signing a one-year contract that is set to expire this November. In April, David Clark, the President and CEO of Visit Mobile told a local newspaper that they were “excited that Carnival Cruise Line has continued to expand opportunities for tourists in our Great City.”
In that same published report, City Finance Director Paul Wesch was quoted as telling the Mobile City Council that Carnival had been exceeding all their expectations since resuming sailings from the port.
Despite the contract being set to expire in November, Carnival is currently booking sailings through April of next year, but this should not necessarily be taken as a signal of how the mayor’s meeting will go. Should Carnival opt not to renew or extend the existing contract, the Carnival Fantasy, which currently offers four- and five-night voyages out of Mobile, would likely be repositioned.

LONDON - The hotel industry in Europe reported positive results in the three key performance metrics during the second quarter of 2017, according to data from STR.
Countries of focus: Germany, Netherlands and United Kingdom
Euro constant currency, Q2 2017 vs. Q2 2016
  • Occupancy: +2.1% to 75.1%
  • Average daily rate (ADR): +4.4% to EUR114.10
  • Revenue per available room (RevPAR): +6.5% to EUR85.67
  • Local currency, Q2 2017 vs. Q2 2016
  • Occupancy: -0.8% to 73.8%
  • ADR: -0.4% to EUR101.24
  • RevPAR: -1.1% to EUR74.76
Supply growth (+1.1%) played a role in the overall performance decrease for the country, reaching 1% for the first time since Q4 2014. Despite the performance at the national level, Q2 RevPAR growth was strong in Cologne (+14.9%) and Hamburg (+14.5%). Performance in Cologne was due to large events such as Art Cologne (April) and the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship (May). Hamburg’s levels received a lift ahead of the G20 summit in early July.
  • Occupancy: +3.9% to 79.5%
  • ADR: +6.0% to EUR129.19
  • RevPAR: +10.1% to EUR102.72
The absolute occupancy level was the highest for a Q2 in the Netherlands since 2006. Performance growth was especially pronounced in April (RevPAR: +14.2%). At the market level, Amsterdam reported double-digit RevPAR growth (+10.5%) for the quarter, due primarily to a 7.5% lift in ADR to EUR164.91.
United Kingdom
  • Occupancy: +1.0% to 79.6%
  • ADR: +5.2% to GBP94.22
  • RevPAR: +6.3% to GBP75.05
STR analysts note that the devaluation of the pound continues to drive inbound travel and stronger domestic tourism in the U.K. At the market level, London recorded an 8.4% rise in RevPAR to GBP127.33, due primarily to a 6.4% increase in ADR to GBP152.70. The market saw only moderate declines in occupancy following the 3 June terrorist attack at London Bridge. Performance growth soon returned and was boosted around Eid Mubarak as London typically welcomes a high volume of visitors from the Middle East during the holiday. Q2 performance growth for Regional U.K. was lower (RevPAR: +4.8%).
Middle East and Africa
The hotel industry in the Middle East reported nearly flat results during the second quarter of 2017, while hotels in Africa recorded growth across the three key performance metrics, according to data from STR.
U.S. dollar constant currency, Q2 2017 vs. Q2 2016
Middle East
  • Occupancy: -0.1% to 62.4%
  • Average daily rate (ADR): +0.8% to US$169.67
  • Revenue per available room (RevPAR): +0.6% to US$105.84
  • Occupancy: +2.7% to 53.3%
  • Average daily rate (ADR): +10.5% to US$101.20
  • Revenue per available room (RevPAR): +13.5% to US$53.96
  • Local currency, Q2 2017 vs. Q2 2016
  • Occupancy: +13.9% to 46.8%
  • ADR: +67.2% to EGP1,217.52
  • RevPAR: +90.5% to EGP569.54
The country’s occupancy growth was due primarily to a comparison with a significantly low performance period during Q2 2016 (41.1%). Occupancy levels last year were greatly affected by the May 2016 EgyptAir plane crash and ensuing security concerns. Since the end of 2016, the country has shown signs of recovery with double-digit occupancy increases in six of seven months. According to STR analysts, the spike in the country’s ADR is consistent with high inflation levels.
  • Occupancy: +10.1% to 49.6%
  • ADR: +2.6% to OMR58.30
  • RevPAR: +13.0% to OMR28.89
Despite the double-digit growth in occupancy, the absolute value in the metric was the fourth-lowest for a Q2 in Oman since 2004. STR analysts note that increased occupancy during the Ramadan period compounded by the shift of Eid al-Fitr into Q2 this year contributed to the positive result.
  • Occupancy: +31.6% to 48.7%
  • ADR: -11.4% to TND143.94
  • RevPAR: +16.6% to TND70.06
STR analysts point to Tunisia as another example of significant occupancy growth due to a low comparison level from the previous year. Steep performance declines were consistent during the first half of 2016 due to lingering security concerns in the country, but June 2017 marked 12 consecutive months with double-digit increases in occupancy. Rates have been consistently cheaper during that time. In May, Tunisia Ministry officials stated that bookings for the summer months were rising, especially from Russia.
Central/South America
The hotel industry in the Central/South America region reported occupancy growth and nearly flat room rates during Q2 2017, according to data from STR.
U.S. dollar constant currency, Q2 2017 vs. Q2 2016
Central/South America
  • Occupancy: +1.0% to 54.2%
  • Average daily rate (ADR): -0.3% to US$97.39
  • Revenue per available room (RevPAR): +0.7% to US$52.75
  • Local currency, Q2 2017 vs. Q2 2016
  • Occupancy: -1.3% to 50.4%
  • ADR: -8.1% to BRL260.74
  • RevPAR: -9.3% to BRL131.52
Performance declines were anticipated for Brazil due to the current political and economic environment. Significant supply growth (+4.2% year over year) and a comparison with higher rate months prior to the 2016 Rio Olympics also played a role. That trend was most visible in Rio de Janeiro, where occupancy was down 12.5% and ADR dropped 18.0% in year-over-year comparisons.
Costa Rica
  • Occupancy: +6.8% to 68.2%
  • ADR: +12.8% to CRC76,300.47
  • RevPAR: +20.4% to CRC52,067.53
The absolute occupancy level was the highest for a Q2 in Costa Rica since 2008. In addition to strong demand growth, continued flat supply helped occupancy and ADR levels for the fifth consecutive quarter. The double-digit ADR growth is in line with inflation levels in the country. At the market level, San Jose recorded strong RevPAR growth of 14.6%.
  • Occupancy: +0.3% to 50.0%
  • ADR: -7.0% to PAB92.85
  • RevPAR: -6.7% to PAB46.40
The absolute occupancy level was the highest for a Q2 in Panama since 2013, but the ADR level was the lowest since 2006. ADR has decreased year over year for 12 straight months.
