Istanbul’s former Kuleli Military high school by the Bosphorus to be turned into museum

Kuleli Military High School, which was the oldest military high school in Turkey - located in Çengelköy on the Asian shore of the Bosphorus, will be turned into a museum. It was founded on September 21, 1845, by Ottoman Sultan Abdülmecid I and closed last year following the coup attempt on July 15, 2016.
Minister of National Defense Fikri Işık announced that the school's building, an Ottoman-era landmark notable for its pointed towers and white exterior, will be converted into a museum while plans are also underway to re-purpose vast green spaces inside the school's sprawling lands.
The reason of the high school’s closure is because of some cadets, mostly those persuaded by their commanders at the school and several military officers serving as administrators and teachers at Kuleli, joined the coup attempt.
Işık has said that the museum, which will be run by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, will be specialized on military history and said the decision to convert the place into a museum was upon the instruction by the president.
