The number of foreign visitors arriving in Tunisia in the initial half of 2017 rose by nearly 29.3% as compared to the same period of 2016 as more than 2.5 million tourists had visited the country, as per the Tunisian Federation of Hotels (TFH) statement on Wednesday.

The general secretary of TFH, Mouna Ben Halima said that such a splendid performance is actually on account of the restoration of growth in the different issuing markets of Europe.

Ben Halima said that European tourists paying visit to Tunisia might rise by 30% in the year 2017 to 2 million as compared to 1.5 million in 2016.

Maghreb nations like Libya and Algeria continue to be the leading source of tourists to Tunisia with 44.7% increase of 1,413,502 tourists as per the TFH.

Out of them, Algeria was responsible for 766,383 tourists that marks the equivalent of a 61.2% rise followed closely by Libya with 619,662 tourists marking a30.6% growth.

Alongside that Tunisia also observed a 100% growth in the Belgian market with 17,807 tourists. But then, the number of Russian tourists dropped by 20% as compared to the first half of 2016.
