The OAG’s annual list of top 50 international megahubs had London Heathrow in the number one spot, the only UK airport to be featured in the top 50 list.

The other top three airports also hailed from Europe, Frankurt was second and Amsterdam third.

The list collects details of the airport’s highest ratio of possible scheduled international connections to the number of destinations served by the airport that was determined by the OAG’s connections analyser.

The senior analyst at the OAG, John Grant mentioned that the connectivity index of London Heathrow is at the top and it will remain in the same position with more extended services within the UK. It should open up to more low-cost airlines which will happen when the third runway gets operational.

It was noticed that on a single day in July there were more than 72,000 possible international connections between the flights arriving at the London Heathrow and the flights departing within a span of six-hour.

Grant mentioned that the importance of international connectivity is linked to the potential economic performance for the cities that are mostly internationally connected. Heathrow is at a convenient position for travellers from the Eastern Europe and ASPAC looking forward to travel North and South America
