Amsterdam is another European delight overrun by tourists

Αποτέλεσμα εικόνας για Amsterdam is another European delight overrun by tourists

Of late various much-favored tourist destinations across the world including Barcelona and Venice has been confronting with a major backlash of overtourism. Currently, this has also reached Amsterdam.

Between 2006 and 2016, the number of overnight stays at hotels in the Dutch capital  had risen from over eight million to 14 million as per a leading media agency.

The effect of such a dramatic rise in tourists is being visible in multiple levels.

Every weekend the red-light district of Amsterdam is crowded with foreigners who are headed for the strip joints and bars. These places are often overrun by tourists and marijuana is also permitted here.

The regional leaders have already let their frustration known I this regard.

The historic canal of Amsterdam has also been transformed by the budget hotels and Airbnb rentals in the neighborhood.

Tourists have been pumping in a good amount of cash into the economy and also creating innumerable jobs. But then seeking out a balance between serving tourists and maintaining quality of life for regional people is quite a challenge.

This city is also making efforts to bring about regulations addressing this issue.

But then, no direct solution seems to be present for this issue of overtourism.
