The local Cherokee County communities are working to continue this travel and tourism trend in Kansas.

The year 2016 marked the seventh consecutive year of visitation and tourism spending increases in Kansas.

Mary Billington, Heritage Center and Museum director, said that this programme is needed in the area to raise awareness on group agendas and to prevent an overlap of ideas from occurring. She is invited area Route 66 agencies, tourism groups, business owners, civic leaders and members of the public to share their input which will help in future to develop more in travel and tourism sector.

Mary Billington also said that the tourism is a huge part of the industry in Cherokee County. The communities have the different tourist groups which are encouraging locals to involve in travel and tourism industry. The travel communities in Kansas have so much to offer to the international tourists.

According to Billington, it’s the perfect time for the programme because tourism season commences next month. The museum and the visitors’ center see an average of 9,000 people annually.
